Physician Assisted Suicide Hearings: December 17, 2013

Death With Dignity

As you undoubtedly remember, the voters of the Commonwealth defeated Question 2 in November 2012. A hearing will be held on December 17, 2013 at 10:00 AM on a new version of the "Death with Dignity" legislation before the Joint Committee on Public Health. This legislation would legalize physician assisted suicide for adults over the age of 18 who are "terminally ill," meaning that a doctor has determined that the patient has less than six months to live. The Catholic Church supports the dignity of all persons, from birth until natural death, and the Bishops in the Commonwealth have spread the message that all suicide is a tragedy. If you are able, please consider testifying at the State House on December 17th or submitting written testimony, or communicating your opposition to this legislation to your legislators. You can find out who your representative or senator in the legislature is by utilizing this link. You can find more information on the MCC's opposition to this legislation here and here. As always, you can contact the Massachusetts Catholic Conference for more information.
